General note Enclosures: [Slip of paper with print out of entry from Columbia Encyclopedia, 6th ed 2005, with pen annotation] Extract: Ritchie, Anne Isabella Thackeray, Lady: 1837-1919, English writer; eldest daughter of William Makepeace Thackeray] [blue pen] With an original letter from Lady Ritchie to G.K.C

[Square of paper with printed text] Robert Browning. 1st Edition, 1903. Loosely inserted is an original holograph letter to Chesterton from Anne Thackeray Ritchie, daughter of W.M. Thackeray. “I must tell you how much interested I have been by your book. It recalls dear Mr. Browning so vividly to me instantaneously. More vivid than my own remembrances of him which have grown limp by constant use. Could you come about 6 o’clock next Monday? I would show a few scraps of him which I prize always. Yours sincerely, Anne Ritchie. This important letter has been in my possession for many years, and its contents should be made known to students and aficionados of both Browning and Thackeray.

[original letter from Anne Richie to GKC, dated July 15, 1903, black ink on cream paper, embossed letterhead: 109 St. George’s Square]

[Piece of paper with printed text] Email from Aidan Mackey to G.Everett in connection with G.K.C’s Robert Browning book and the letter to G.K.C from Anne Ritchie.

[Folded piece of paper, printed letter from Aidan Mackey to Mr Everett, dated 11th November 2005, discussing the Browning book by GKC and the letter from Anne Ritchie]

[lined index card with notes in pen and pencil] [pencil] 1st edtn 1903 GKCs first written book (previous were poems + essays) often described as being without dates, but are 38 in first section.
