Enclosures: [small square of paper with typewritten text] Letters to His Wife by Robert Vernède. Vernède had been a friend of G.K.C.'s from their days together at St. Paul's School. He was a poet of promise but, like so many other young poets, was killed during the war of 1914-1918. This collection was edited by his widow who, in her introduction, quotes at length from G.K.C.'s tribute to him whcih was written for the magazine of their old school, The Pauline. This was Dorothy Collins' copy, with her signature on the fly-leaf.
