This 1945 film starring George Sanders (Lord Henry Wotton), Hurd Hatfield (Dorian Gray) and Angela Lansbury (Sybil Vane) is the definative version of the classic novel by Oscar Wilde. It is filmed with care and attention, close to the novel, with a few minor changes. The mounted colour inserts of the picture itself are stunning in this b&w film. All other players are perfectly cast, and is the yardstick by which other versions have to aspire to.
