Summary, etc "This tightly focused history explores the interplay between the arrival of four cohorts of refugees and some of the central themes of British twentieth-century history. It demonstrates how refugees' experiences, rather than being marginal, were emblematic of some of the principal developments in British society. Based on rich archival sources, this book explores how refugees from Nazism; Hungarians in 1956; Ugandan Asians expelled by Idi Amin; and Vietnamese 'boat people were received and settled in Britain.
